America first, duty free (a close) second: A message from the travel retail industry

The following two tabs change content below.

On 20 January President Donald J. Trump delivered an extraordinary inauguration speech that seemed to usher in a new world order – or perhaps a new world disorder. Or perhaps just a disorder.

Of the many talking points to arise from that speech, none has been more commented on than the following refrain: “We assembled here today are issuing to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power. From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first. America first.”

“Only America first. America First”.  Combined with the President’s numerous comments about building a wall between the USA and Mexico, that clarion call gave rise to a hilarious spoof national video by Dutch news satire show Zondag Met Lubach called ‘America First, The Netherlands second’ (see below).

Not content to let the Dutch bask in runners-up glory, a host of other nations followed suit (in deference to The Moodie Davitt Report’s Kiwi-Irish shareholders we include the New Zealand and Irish versions).

But what would the duty free industry say to Mr Trump about his message? The Moodie Davitt Report can provide the answer through the specially commissioned film below.
