The Moodie Davitt Report Singapore Bureau is open for business. I’m back at the Marina Bay Sands for the annual TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference, one of the stand-outs in the industry calendar for me and many others.

You can almost reach out and touch the energy here as soon as you step off the plane and into the wonderful airport that is Singapore Changi.

For the first time ever here I’ve got a back room rather than front room view of Singapore and while I miss the latter’s spectacular water views, how can I complain about a panorama that takes in the magnificent Garden by the Bay, including 18 ‘Supertrees’ in Supertree Grove, the tallest measuring up to 16 storeys in height (by next year it might be 17, but that’s a storey for another day).

From my room I can see the 22-metre-high OCBC Skyway, a 128-metre aerial walkway that connects two of the Supertrees. Alas, given that my middle name is Vertigo, I don’t think I’ll be taking that particular stroll. As darkness falls while I’m writing, the Supertrees have burst into a dazzling display of lights illuminating the Singaporean sky. Beautiful.

I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends this week and making many new ones, starting with the Opening Cocktail that begins in around 12 minutes at the iconic Raffles Hotel. Enough for now; as usual I am late for the ball.
