Veal meat again_Small

“Veal meat again…”

It sounded like I was about to burst into a Vera Lynn wartime song but I was simply ordering the best chop in New York.

The Moodie Report’s Americas bureau has doubled in size with the arrival of Deputy Publisher Dermot Davitt after a 15-hour flight from Hong Kong, step one on his epic around-the-world attempt to get back to Galway, Ireland before Christmas.

It’s nice to have company after going stir crazy in the Four Points hotel in Hell’s Kitchen for days on end, so we celebrated by heading back to my adopted Italian restaurant ‘Trattoria Casa di Isacco’ run by a winemaker and restaurateur from Tenerife, Spain called Isacco.

So far we haven’t asked the mercurial Isacco why he didn’t open a Spanish restaurant. But we’re glad he didn’t because his Italian food, steeped in lashings of garlic and rosemary, is to die for.

He’s also a pretty mean Elvis look-alike and likes to boogey on down during the evening, especially with his adoring female clientele.

Such moments keep the spirits up when there appears – as today – little likelihood of us getting back to the UK and Ireland, respectively, any time soon.

Perhaps I should take inspiration from that veal chop, and adopt the famous Vera Lynn song to the troops as the rallying call to my family who are poised to report me as a missing person.

We’ll meet again
Don’t know where
Don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again
Some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
‘Till the blue skies
Drive the dark [volcano] clouds far away

  • I know how frustrating & maddening it must be.

However, despite this, I applaud how you have maintained your humour through it all in your blog.

Must be difficult but a little humour is the only way to handle something like this otherwise you end up pulling your hair out (Oh! Sorry!!)…
