What a great store the main DFS Venture Singapore liquor & tobacco outlet at Changi Terminal 2 is.
I’m here to chronicle the unveiling of the new Chivas Regal 25yo – exclusive to DFS at Changi for a month – but away from the spotlight on the new launch, it’s an opportunity to simply stand back and watch retailing excellence at work.
As the traveller approaches the main store (passing by the DFS wine store which features a fantastic Veuve Clicquot display – above – showing a range of bottles in glorious yellow cladding, inside a giant trunk) the first impression comes from the shop’s signature cocktail bar, currently dedicated to an Absolut vodka flavours promotion.
In its latest incarnation – the theme and brand changes regularly – the bar looks as effervescent as an Absolut and tonic and just as tantalising.
From there it’s on to the Chivas launch, where an elegant showcase area has been set aside. DFS Venture Singapore Managing Director Craig McKenna is rightly proud of this store and of DFS having retained its contract ahead of a stern challenge from Hotel Lotte Duty Free this year.
McKenna noted at the launch: “Innovation and exclusivity are the keys for sustained growth in the liquor business.” With Chivas 25yo, DFS is delivering on both counts. The exclusivity may be for a limited period only, but Changi is a heck of a place to start.
