Meet Dita. Dita Von Teese. As in the US burlesque artist, model, actress and former wife of Marilyn Manson.

The magnificently named Ms Von Teese is famous for many things, including a concert at the New York Academy of Art, where she gave a literally sparkling performance by wearing nothing but US$5 million worth of diamonds.

Now Dita Von Teese, or at least her image, may be coming to a duty free store near you, following news that the legendary performer will perform at the Angel Church in New York next month to boost Cointreau liqueur’s image in the Americas.

Ms Von Teese has been the French liqueur’s ambassador since Autumn 2007, sending not just Cointreau’s but countless other spirits soaring as a result.

Her association with the brand has particular relevance to travel retail – she is currently promoting the ‘Lips’ promotional campaign being conducted by Cointreau in duty free locations.

That campaign has seen the launch of the  ‘Cointreaupolitan’ cocktail – a mix of Cointreau, cranberry juice and lemon juice, which is the subject of tastings conducted by Maxxium Travel Retail in airports such as Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, Schiphol, Montvideo, Buenos Aires and San Juan.

Remy Cointreau and Maxxium promise that the new-look campaign will be in evidence next month at the Duty Free Show of the Americas in Fort Lauderdale.

For those who think that there is more than a touch of burlesque to travel retail at times, why not stop by for a Cointreaupolitan?

Who knows, you might even meet the remarkable Dita Von Teese. Judging by her impact on the world to date, she’s sure to leave you feeling like a good Cointreaupolitan, both shaken and stirred.
