It just seems like the blink of an eye ago that I was a (comparatively) young reporter in this industry, trying to make my way in a business that frankly I had no idea about. But it isn’t the blink of any eye, it’s quarter of a century, and to confirm that fact, a timely note dropped into my in-box recently.
See, you just know that you’re getting on in life when you get an invitation headed ‘Calling all UK duty free dinosaurs’.
And that’s exactly what I received last month from Anita Rothermel, formerly Duty Free Buyer – Wines, Spirits, Tobacco, Confectionery at Sally Line.
Anita and some close industry colleagues are organising a reunion of veteran UK duty free executives, past and present, all of whom have played an important role in developing the industry to what it is today.
“We feel sure that the forgotten majority would want the opportunity to meet up with old friends,” Anita notes.
The date is 2 November 2012, at The Tattershall Castle, Victoria Embankment, London SW1A 2HR, noon till 4p.m.

It indeed sounds like a great occasion. And a memorable one too. After all, it’s not every day you see dinosaurs loose in central London.
