There’s always something new going on at Hong Kong International, an airport that simply oozes energy and innovation.

This week I wandered (and shopped at) T2 landside, while yesterday I visited some of my favourite stores (also landside) at T1. It’s hard to believe that it’s 20 years since the airport opened to the public but indeed that landmark anniversary will be reached on 6 July amid great celebrations airport-wide.

It won’t be the only celebration. In fact June and July will provide an extravaganza of festivities as the airport’s latest generation of anchor store retailers stage their Grand Openings.

Things kick off with The Shilla Duty Free on 28 June as they unveil the completed Beauty & You network across the airport. Gebr Heinemann follows suit on 6 July with its Sweet Dreams confectionery stores and then the following week it’s the turn of China Duty Free Group and Lagardère Travel Retail (trading as Duty Zero). Beauty & You, Sweet Dreams and Duty Zero. Nice names, I think.

We’ll ensure you get the most up to date and best coverage from this exciting multi-celebration. In the meantime I’m closing up the Hong Kong Interim Moodie Davitt Report Bureau and heading to Singapore for the annual TFWA Asia Pacific show. One thing’s for sure though, I’ll be back here soon enough.
