Readers of The Moodie Blog will remember the launch of the ingenious ‘crutch’ putter by its developer, Dubai Duty Free Managing Director Colm McLoughlin, in late 2007.

The club was conceived after Colm, a single handicapper, originally from Galway, began his recovery from hip surgery in the run-up to the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup last December.

Determined that his absence from the game would not dull his putting stroke, the innovative Irishman, realised the crutch he was using was shaped uncannily like a putter (see below).

Before you could say ‘Galway Races’, Colm was up and running, metaphorically at least. After overcoming an initial tendency to fall over after his follow through, he was soon holing out from all around the undulating practice green just outside the West Wing at the McLoughlin residence.

Now, with his recuperation nearly complete, the great man is eyeing a return to the game he loves. And will it be with a conventional putter? Not a chance, The Moodie Blog reliably understands. The ‘Gal-a-way’ Crutch Putter, as it is has now been dubbed, is set to take up permanent residence in the McLoughlin bag, underlining his reputation as the Middle East’s hippest golfer.

And just to prove it, Colm brought the new club out (below) for the approval of the world’s greatest golfer, Tiger Woods, after the latter’s dramatic last day triumph at the recent Dubai Desert Classic.

Our picture below shows Tiger roaring with delight after he realised he had won a life-time’s supply of the ‘Gal-a-way’ Crutch Putter in the latest Dubai Duty Free ‘Finest Surprise’ competition, after drawing out his own name.

“With the Dubai Duty Free Gal-a-way in my bag, I know I can go on and win the Grand Slam this year,” he told a delighted audience.
