Fire extinguishers were on standby last night as one of the industry’s most popular figures prepared to blow out the candles on his birthday cake in Fort Lauderdale.
Jonathan Holland, head of Singapore-based agency and distribution company Jonathan Holland & Associates celebrated his 50th birthday in style at the Capital Grill during the IAADFS-run Duty Free Show of the Americas.
‘Chaps’ as he is known to his (many) friends is often mistaken – though always by himself – for a young Cary Grant, thanks to his impeccable sense of Englishness, style and suaveness with the ladies.
But while age cannot wither his perseverance, could it be that his legendary touch is starting to fade? The Moodie Blog was on hand to capture the reaction of two of the industry’s great women, Breeda McLoughlin, wife of Dubai Duty Free boss Colm and Ellyn Porpora, Sales Director Americas for Revlon, after he asked each for a birthday kiss.
The grimaces, and in Ellyn’s case tears, tell the story better than we can. Never mind Chaps, it happens to us all. And while there may be 50 of them on your cake, few can hold a candle to you as one of the great guys of the business.
Congratulations Chaps on reaching such a milestone! Charisma and charm certainly in tact….but evidently, with the advancing years, the eyes have sadly started to fail…..no other reason for going out in that shirt!!
