News reaches The Moodie Blog that MAC aims to inject some Possum power into the make-up market, with the imminent introduction of a line of colour cosmetics from ‘Aussie megastar housewife’ Dame Edna Everage, write Rebecca Mann and Martin Moodie. What an inspired move. What better way to banish the economic blues than by buying into a dash of Dame Edna’s unique persona? Possums, form an orderly queue…

The packaging – in keeping with Dame Edna’s hair – is a nicely understated lilac, set off subtly with a lava-red spectacles motif. The entertainer’s favourite flower, the gladiola, inspired many of the blooming product shades with ‘Kangarouge’ reportedly the one that really made the Dame hop up and down with excitement and pouch the deal.

The trademark Everage understatement continued as she modestly described herself as “probably the most popular and gifted woman in the world today: housewife, investigative journalist, social anthropologist, talk-show host, swami, children’s book illustrator, spin doctor, megastar, and Icon.”

We agree. Will the Dame Edna range prove a MAC-nificent success in this channel? You can bet your lilac-haired life on it. In fact The Moodie Blog believes it will raise the Everage spend in travel retail faster than you can say “Hello Possums.”
