I’m at Hong Kong International Airport on the way back from Macau to Heathrow.

What a great shopping experience this airport offers – and what a stunning new addition I noted today, apparently just three days old.

Take a look at the pictures on this page of the new DFS luxury spirits zone in one of its two main liquor & tobacco stores at the airport. It’s jaw-droppingly gorgeous, with some magnificent Cognacs, single malts and other spirits inside.

I have to head for my plane a long way away in this vast terminal (many a time have I nearly missed a plane due to my Blogging obsession) so I’ll keep my words short and let the pictures tell the story. But this is taking spirits retailing to a new level.

And that raising of the bar, if you like, has been the common theme for me over one of the most exhilarating weeks I’ve ever had in this business. From the brilliant and beautifully elegant, understated Penfolds boutique at Sydney Airport (a partnership between Treasury Wine Estates and The Nuance Group, with the airport also playing a key role in a great Trinity collaboration) to DFS’s wonderful Masters of Time exhibition in Macau and now this lovely new addition to HKIA, it’s been a case of daring ambition and outstanding execution across the board.

More please. These examples show just how good our industry can be. Aim for the stars and you just may reach them.

P.S As the picture shows below, business is not bad in the tobacco category either…
