The Moodie Report’s LA Adventure: Day 1

The following two tabs change content below.

Day 1 of Clinique’s Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector event (see previous blog post for background) was, much like LA itself, fun and fascinating (despite the inclement weather. Expecting temperatures in the high 80s, the Moodie Report packed only one wrap and believe me, it’s going to see a lot of action out here!).

Dr Moy At the Welcome Breakfast yesterday, special guest Dr Ron Moy, President Elect of the American Academy of Dermatology, delivered a captivating presentation in which he set out what he considers to be the future of “Dermosurgery”. Moy believes that the days of invasive procedures such as full face-lifts are numbered, and that in the future lasers will be among the devices used to treat everything from wrinkles to varicose veins to hair loss.

jimmy choo After his speech, journalists were privileged to be given a tour of Dr Moy’s 4,000sq ft practice, on North Rodeo Drive. We saw up close and personal the equipment used by his team, including a selection of lasers, and even took a peep inside one of his operating theatres (all procedures, even face-lifts, are done on-site, where possible using a local anaesthetic – gulp).

bbq Once the tour had finished – and purely for research purposes, naturally – we thoroughly examined all the high-end boutiques of the iconic Rodeo Drive, which seemed to feature every high-end fashion, shoe, jewellery and accessory brand on the planet. Our credit cards cowered…

bbq2 That retail therapy – damn, I mean research – continued well into the afternoon, via two further malls, where this journalist examined the Lauder group counters in every Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s possible, and spent what seemed like three happy hours critiquing the beauty offer in Sephora.

After a quick change (preceded by another hot shower to warm up!) all journalists left the Beverly Wilshire at 5.30pm to head for a barbeque at Shutters on the Beach restaurant in Santa Monica. Overlooking the ocean (and warmed by an army of patio heaters!), the restaurant served up a sumptuous dinner under the stars, as we watched Angelenos enjoying the last few hours of surf and sand – and one local character, clad all in white, who performed an impromptu but energetic dance routine for us on the boardwalk.
