If there’s one individual who is consistently at the head of the queue for helping good causes in this business it’s Mars International Travel Retail Manager UK and Ireland Martyn Westbury (pictured left with Martin Moodie and Alan Edwards after the ‘Miles for Smiles’ charity run in Dubai). Whether it’s participating in charity runs; donating corporate prizes to charity or putting his hand in his own pocket, Martyn is always there.
Quite simply, he’s just one of the good guys in our industry.
So The Moodie Blog joins with all his many friends in wishing Martyn a rapid and full recovery from a heart attack he has just suffered while on a work trip in Mumbai, India.
Martyn (who has granted permission for us to run this story) tells us that he has been brilliantly looked after by local medics and by colleagues Stuart Bull and Rajiv Hira “who have been absolute heroes in sorting things for me”.
“The good news,” he tells us, “was that we were still in Mumbai and close to the hospital, as a couple of hours later we would have been flying. I have been extremely lucky as part of the clot managed to pass through the artery itself and the remaining 60% blockage has been able to be treated through angiography and drugs.”
Subject to medical clearance, Martyn hopes to return to the UK on 20 December.
Mars, kindly, is arranging for his daughter Rachel to fly out to accompany him. In the meantime, he will resting up in Mumbai and is taking e-mail messages (martyn.westbury@effem.com)
Our message is short and simple. Get well soon Martyn, on behalf of many, many people.
