Dubai Duty Free’s brace of horse racing days at Newbury racecourse near London this week proved, as usual, a big success.
The Moodie Report Publisher was on hand to try out his recently acquired Fedora (as recommended by one Breeda McLoughlin) and to enjoy the impeccable hospitality of the Dubai Duty Free team.
With veteran former duty free industry executives attending in the evergreen shape of Vince Horne (ex Diageo) and Charles Richardson (Allied Domecq), the day had a nice reunion feel to it. The racing was good, the company even better, and the hosting straight out of the top drawer.
I even managed to make a decent few quid, having invested a heavy wager on 8-1 shot Imperial Pippin to beat Her Majesty the Queen’s Caraboss.
“Off with his head,” yelled one racegoer as jockey William Buick dismounted from the victorious ‘anti-monarchist’ horse.
While Imperial Pippin and I were beating the Queen (pictured below), Dubai Duty Free Managing Director Colm McLoughlin was meeting her and eating with her, sharing a reportedly highly enjoyable lunch at Her Majesty’s table.
All in all, a royal day out.
