The Moodie Report is in Cyprus, having flown to the island for the official inauguration of the New Zenon Terminal in Larnaka on Saturday.
This is a major event here – in fact it’s the biggest European airport opening of 2009. The new facility includes 5,000sq m of retail space, all run by CTC-ARI Airports.
ARI Director General Eamon Foley flew in today as did Aer Rianta International-Middle East Managing Director John Sutcliffe, under whose watch the Cyprus operation comes.
It’s a big day for the Irish company and its partners and CTC-ARI Airports General Manager Danny Galvin is promising a “world-class shopping experience”.
Subsequent to the official inauguration, operations will commence on 10 November with approximately half of the flights using the new facility.
The remaining flights will transfer to the new terminal on 17 November, at which time the current Larnaka Airport will close.
We’ll be providing extensive coverage of this landmark day and taking a full tour of the commercial offer. If the artists’ mock-ups below are anything to go by, I’m in for a treat.
From tomorrow morning though, the artists’ impressions are consigned to history. It’s almost opening time in Cyprus.
