It’s the big race day at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival and one of the most sure-fire winners in the event’s history suddenly doesn’t look so certain.
That’s because in traditional Dublin style, the rain has been pouring faster than an Irish barman at opening time. The gods relented a little yesterday but as I write it’s drizzling again and that isn’t good news for red-hot favourite Camelot.
With soft ground at best expected (and maybe much worse), The Moodie Tipster whose picks have a fine history of winning the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, thinks Camelot will come up short. It’s an evening race for the first time in history and our resident pundit thinks the favourite’s trainer will be heard quoting the famous words of King Arthur: “Mother told me there would be knights like this.”
Yes folks, watch out instead for Imperial Monarch, who loves the mud, and Light Heavy, who couldn’t be named better for the conditions.
According to this morning’s paper, Imperial Monarch had a corn on his foot yesterday (clearly a messy eater) so on that slight concern, The Moodie Tipster is backing Light Heavy to take the spoils. Put your mortgage on it…
