Few would begrudge Alpha management’s immense satisfaction on yesterday news that the group had signed a ten-year extension to its retail contract with Manchester Airport. The UK retail-to-catering group has been under virtually constant fire this year, reeling from the suspension of its stock market listing and the sudden departures of its CEO and Finance Director.
But through it all Alpha has kept on trading positively and profitably and kept on believing in its way of doing things. It has a well-deserved reputation as an innovative retailer, a reputation clearly embraced by Manchester Airport, where Alpha’s recent T2 revamp has created one of the best stores in the business.
Among all the words uttered yesterday, the sweetest to Alpha must have come from Manchester Airport CEO Geoff Muirhead who said: “Like us, Alpha has a real passion for delivering the best possible retail solutions, which will benefit everyone using the airport.” New CEO Peter Williams (pictured top) and Commercial Director David King (below) will have dined well last night – Alpha is back in the spirit and colour it embraces best, the pink.
