A welcome guest at the first-ever Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the weekend was Maurice Burke, long-time General Manager of Bahrain Duty Free and one of the great contributors to the Middle East travel retail business and to parent company Aer Rianta, for whom he worked for 38 years.
Maurice left Bahrain Duty Free in January. Shortly after that he became unwell but we are delighted to report that he is bouncing back in his own inimitable, droll style – even though his inability to pick winners at the horses remains as unerring as it ever was.
Maurice, known to all and sundry as ‘Mossie’ has plenty of ambition in the business yet – free of duty he doesn’t plan to be for some time. And that’s good news for the business as a whole. He’s a fine General Manager with plenty still to offer our sector – including a sense of humour drier than any Martini you could ever pour.
Absolutely delighted to see a photo of the man as we know and love him.
More strength to you Mossie.
