And I’ll drink and dance with one hand free
Let the world back into me
Oh I’ll be a sight to see
Back in the high life again

The Guinness and wine flowed, the dancing was frenetic, the camaraderie terrific.  Dubai Duty Free’s annual party to celebrate its Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup was, as ever, a wonderful occasion.

This time last year I was in a very different place so it was great to be back among industry friends partying as they do in the inimitable way that this event engenders every year.

That’s of course down to the incredible hospitality and organisational excellence of Dubai Duty Free as well as great musical acts chosen for the evening.

Last night guests were treated to a sensational performance by Irish folk band The Molly Maguires, as well as Palladium (above), a trio of high-octane electric violinists from Belarus. And there was a surprise third act, this time from MEDFA conference moderator (and long-time Aer Rianta International-Middle East Managing Director) John Sutcliffe (pictured below draped in Irish colours) who turned in a stunningly good couple of songs backed by The Molly Macguires. Retailer, moderator, now lead vocalist. Is there no end to this man’s versatility?

The party continued long into the night. Expect some weary performances when the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup concludes later today. But even the worst affected will say it was worth it. What a night.
