The Moodie BLOG captured Jean-Michel Bostroem raising his glass at TFWA Asia Pacific in Singapore but it is we who should be toasting him.

At the end of the northern Summer travel retail will bid farewell to one of its great servants. The L’Oreal Produits de Luxe International Travel Retail Worldwide International Marketing Director plans to retire from the French beauty group after an impressive 30-plus years, 20 of them in this channel.

Jean-Michel is a modest, endearing, occasionally eccentric character who uses the word ‘luck’ frequently to describe his many career achievements. But like all successful people he has made most of that luck himself, blending acumen and passion with a strong work ethic and an even stronger sense of values.

He describes L’Oreal as “one of travel retail’s true trailblazers” – a company that pioneered the development of cosmetics in general and make-up in particular within the channel. It has also been to the fore in championing travel retail exclusives and creating high profile promotions on-airport, often outside the stores.

Jean-Michel’s official retirement begins soon but he will finish his period with TFWA as Vice President Marketing, another organisation to which he has given selflessly. That means he will be around in Cannes this October – at which time the noise of the traditional opening cocktail fireworks may pale in comparison alongside all those Champagne corks that are popped during the event to celebrate this fine man’s many achievements.

  • Dear Martin,

Much more needs to be said on Jean Michel. He has been part of my most rewarding 9 years with the L’Oreal Group Asia, as a man of integrity, a driver of innovation, and someone who never said no to any challenges but just faced them and turn them into great opportunities for the Group.

I am indebted to Jean Michel as I learned a lot from him when I was in the early years of my own professional development.

Thank you Jean Michel and I will take the time to meet with you in Cannes this October.
